چکیده

The generalized assignment problem can be viewed as the following problem of scheduling parallel machines with costs. Each job is to be processed by exactly one machine; processing job j on machine i requires time pif and incurs a cost of c,f, each machine / is available for 7", t ime units, and the objective is.t»minimize the total cost incurred. Our main result is as follows. There is a polynomial-time algorithm that, given a value C, either proves that no feasible schedule of cost C exists, or else finds a schedule of cost at most C where each machine / is used for at most 27", time units. We also extend this result to a variant of the problem where, instead of a fixed processing time p,r there is a range of possible processing times for each machine-job pair, and the cost linearly increases as (he processing time decreases. We show that these results imply a polynomial-time 2-approximation algorithm to minimize a weighted sum of the cost and the makespan, i.e., the maximum job completion time. We also consider the objective of minimizing the mean job completion time. We show that there is a polynomial-time algorithm that, given values M and 7", either proves that no schedule of mean job completion time M and makespan /"exists, or else finds a schedule of mean job completion time at most M and makespan at most 27".

An iterative method for the Hermitian-generalized Hamiltonian solutions to the inverse problem AX=B with a submatrix constraint

In this paper, an iterative method is proposed for solving the matrix inverse problem $AX=B$ for Hermitian-generalized Hamiltonian matrices with a submatrix constraint. By this iterative method, for any initial matrix $A_0$, a solution $A^*$ can be obtained in finite iteration steps in the absence of roundoff errors, and the solution with least norm can be obtained by choosing a special kind of...

Degree Reduction of Disk Wang-Bézier Type Generalized Ball Curves

A disk Wang-Bézier type generalized Ball curve is a Wang-Bézier type generalized Ball curve whose control points are disks in a plane. It can be viewed as a parametric curve with error tolerances. In this paper, we discuss the problem of degree reduction of disk Wang-Bézier type generalized Ball curve, that is, bounding disk Wang-Bézier type generalized Ball curves with lower degree disk Wa...

Existence and Iterative Approximations of Solution for Generalized Yosida Approximation Operator

In this paper, we introduce and study a generalized Yosida approximation operator associated to H(·, ·)-co-accretive operator and discuss some of its properties. Using the concept of graph convergence and resolvent operator, we establish the convergence for generalized Yosida approximation operator. Also, we show an equivalence between graph convergence for H(·, ·)-co-accretive operator and gen...

SINGLE MACHINE DUE DATE ASSIGNMENT SCHEDULING PROBLEM WITH PRECEDENCE CONSTRAINTS AND CONTROLLABLE PROCESSING TIMES IN FUZZY ENVIRONMENT

In this paper, a due date assignment scheduling problem with precedence constraints and controllable processing times in uncertain environment is investigated, in which the basic processing time of each job is assumed to be the symmetric trapezoidal fuzzy number, and the linear resource consumption function is used. The objective is to minimize the crisp possibilistic mean (or expected) value of...

A (1-1/e)-approximation algorithm for the generalized assignment problem

We give a (1 − 1/e)-approximation algorithm for the Max-Profit Generalized Assignment Problem (Max-GAP) with fixed profits when the profit (but not necessarily the size) of every item is independent from the bin it is assigned to. The previously best known approximation ratio for this problem was 1/2. Key-words. Generalized assignment, Approximation algorithm.
